“Give Me a Sign!” – Let’s Look at Tarot
By Susan Fiandach and Connie Wake
In today’s world of psychic-medium readings, the phrase “Give me a sign!” is something we hear often. People seek confirmation for their next move, validation of a decision, or simply clarity in a confusing situation. At times, however, people are looking for the definitive "what to do."
Through the ability to receive, interpret, and deliver intuitive information, psychic-mediums provide insight, and facilitate a conversation between the conscious self and deeper wisdom. At The Purple Door, we often say, “Insight, not instruction,” because a reader should always honor a client’s sovereignty, free will, and personal choice.
Just like road signs on a highway, psychic readings may offer direction or awareness — but the client is still driving the car.
One common way intuitive information is received is through tarot or oracle cards. Tarot is a structured 78-card system made up of four suits, along with the Major Arcana (representing larger archetypal life themes) and the Minor Arcana (reflecting everyday experiences and situations). Oracle cards provide similar guidance but in a more free-form and artistically expressive way.
The purpose of tarot is not necessarily to tell someone what to do. Instead, the cards bring awareness to situations, patterns, perspectives, or ways of thinking that may need attention. In many ways, tarot makes the unseen visible. Through the images, symbolism, and conversation within a reading, insights can rise from the subconscious into conscious awareness.
And awareness is powerful.
Many readings do not specifically point to a direct action or answer. Instead, the cards often reveal a progression — from past to present, from thought to action, or from challenge to opportunity. This can provide validation, reflection, or a new perspective that helps a person move forward with greater clarity and trust in themselves.
Even the “outcome” cards are not always meant to be purely positive or negative. Not every sign comes through as The Sun shining brightly in all its glory. Sometimes the insight arrives through cards like The Devil, encouraging deeper reflection about attachment, limitation, fear, or imbalance.
As we move through daily life in thought, word, and action, reflection and feedback help us stay aligned with who we are and what we hope to become. Tarot offers that mirror. Through symbolic imagery and meaningful conversation, readings can illuminate both the encouraging signs and the challenging ones.
So when someone says, “Give me a sign,” perhaps the deeper purpose is not simply receiving the sign itself — but recognizing the power to turn that sign into insight, awareness, and purposeful action.
As Neale Donald Walsch wrote:
“The purpose of life is to recreate your Self anew, in the next grandest version of the greatest vision ever you held about Who You Are.”
