The Spectrum of Knowing
By Susan Fiandach and Connie Wake
New Thought, New Age teachings, and the consciousness of the new millennium have opened an expansive landscape for connection—with ourselves, with one another, and with Spirit. This landscape is not best understood as a hierarchy or a set of levels to achieve, but as a range of lived experiences. Each experience invites us to deepen and broaden our knowing of who we are and how Spirit moves within and around us.
Our experiences can be intentionally cultivated. When expressed and reflected upon, they expand our awareness—not only of ourselves, but of God, Spirit, and the shared humanity that connects us all.
Each of us carries a slice of unknowing. For some, this may be a limited awareness of their inner life or spiritual nature; for others, it may exist alongside a clear understanding of themselves as spiritual beings having a human experience. The invitation is not to eliminate what we don’t know, but to respectfully acknowledge it—while developing trust in what we do know. Sacred knowing grows when curiosity meets humility.
Often, this knowing begins quietly. The small inner voice. The gut feeling. The chills or the sudden stillness that stops us in our tracks. These experiences introduce us to intuition—rooted in instinct, yet refined through awareness. Intuition can become a trusted companion, offering insight and guidance when logic alone falls short.
Empathic awareness—the ability to feel and interpret emotional energy—often serves as a bridge between intuition and relationship. It allows us to connect more deeply with people, places, and moments. When grounded in compassion rather than victimhood, this sensitivity becomes a strength, expanding our capacity for understanding without self-sacrifice.
Psychic sensing further extends this field of knowing. Information is received not solely through the physical senses—seeing, hearing, touching—but through subtle impressions, images, feelings, and inner recognition. As we learn to trust both the reception and the interpretation of this information, our awareness expands beyond the personal and into the shared field of consciousness.
Yet soul-to-soul connection reaches even further.
It is here that knowing moves beyond ourselves and even beyond one another—into relationship with Spirit, with God, and with the greater purpose of our humanity. Soul-to-soul knowing is expressed through faith, through service, and through the quiet acts of love that recognize the divine in others.
In all of this, wisdom lies in knowing what we know, honoring what we don’t know, and remaining open to what we are meant to explore. When approached with intention and reverence, this unfolding awareness expands our world in meaningful ways—always guiding us toward higher consciousness and a deeper expression of who we truly are.
We are spiritual beings, gifted with the capacity to know, to grow, and to connect—soul to soul.
