Spirit is the Life, Mind is the Builder…
by Susan Fiandach and Connie Wake
Edgar Cayce, the early 20th-century trance medium, offered this simple statement:
“Spirit is the Life, Mind is the Builder, Physical is the Result.”
Perhaps within that statement is a remarkably simple way of looking at creation.
Spirit/Source/God is the Life.
Mind is the potential of creation.
Physical is the reality to be experienced.
Philosophers and religions have placed Spirit, Source, or God at the highest level of understanding for centuries. From there, we experience the power of mind, free will, and choice as we participate in creating the reality of our lives. And we can change that mind process at any moment.
So perhaps we can add another line to Cayce's thought:
Spirit/Source/God is the Life (“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”)
Mind is the Builder
Experience is the Result
And the Pattern Repeats.
Our understanding of God/Source gives us an opportunity to ponder both how creation works and how life is experienced. Perhaps Mind is where we recognize the information pattern—and where we have the opportunity to participate in it: to create, modify, grow, and transform our lives.
Our work in psychic-mediumship has given us an extraordinary opportunity to observe information at work.
Information seems to emerge from somewhere, become perceived, interpreted, connected, and sometimes demonstrated through evidence. And ultimately, it becomes an experience.
We can observe this pattern of consciousness at work:
Surface → Interpretive → Relational → Evidential → Experiential
Something is perceived.
The mind interprets it.
It enters into relationship with another person's consciousness.
Evidence may emerge.
And the client has an experience.
That experience then becomes a new surface from which further understanding can emerge.
And the pattern begins again.
Perhaps that is why the reading itself can be viewed as a tiny model of a much larger process.
The “surface” is not necessarily an ending point. It becomes the beginning point for the next experience of understanding—ever growing, expanding, and expressing through life.
And this is where psychic-mediumship becomes particularly interesting.
The process is engaged on both sides of the table. The reader receives, interprets, relates, recognizes, and experiences. The client receives, interprets, relates, recognizes, and experiences. Both are participating in the same movement toward greater understanding of self.
The reading, then, is not simply about whether a piece of information is “right.” It becomes an opportunity to observe consciousness in relationship.
Perhaps everyone is doing it.
We are all perceiving.
We are all interpreting.
We are all relating.
We are all gathering evidence through our experiences.
And we are all continually creating a new “surface” from which the next experience begins.
Maybe this is what it means to be the image of God/Source manifested “on earth as it is in Heaven.”
Psychic-mediumship is simply one of the many ways we can observe—and participate in—the pattern.
One more way to know self.
One more way to ponder God/Source.
One more way to experience the mystery of being alive.
And that is Good News.
