Isn’t God in the New Age too?
By Susan Fiandach and Connie Wake
Lately, we’ve noticed a growing divide between religion and New Age spirituality — especially around Christian beliefs and metaphysical practices. We understand this well. We were raised Catholic, and later in life felt called to explore consciousness communication — what many call psychic-mediumship.
What we’ve discovered along the way is that God is very much present in this “New Age” space.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. The language may sound different, but the heart of both paths seeks the same thing — truth, connection, and alignment with Divine Love.
For us, psychic-mediumship isn’t about self-worship or denying God’s word. It’s about soul-to-soul connection — receiving, interpreting, and sharing messages of hope, healing, and love in a way that honors the Spirit within all of us. When done ethically and with reverence, it deepens our faith, not weakens it.
We know there are concerns, like those recently shared by Doreen Virtue, that New Age practices replace the Holy Spirit with “energy” or distract from God’s authority. But from our own experience, we’ve found that energy is simply the language of God in motion — the breath of Spirit that connects all things.
Many in the New Age community say, “I’m not religious, but I’m spiritual.”
We see it as “The Kingdom of God is at hand” as the Divine within our understanding of mind-body-spirit, the mantra of New Age.
Different words — same truth. Both remind us that God lives within and around us, always accessible when our hearts and minds are open. This alignment of God+Spirit+heart+mind is the Divine cause and effect, which is popularly referred to as manifesting in our day-to-day lives.
When Jesus said, “I and the Father are One,” He spoke of the same unity consciousness that New Agers describe. When He taught, “Love one another,” He showed us how to experience God directly — through compassion, kindness, and service. These are all heralded in New Age spiritual beliefs.
So rather than seeing division, we see a beautiful alignment between the teachings of Jesus and the awakening that many call “New Age.” It’s not rebellion. It’s reunion — a return to the understanding that all goodness, all love, all light comes from one Source...God.
